Their story, in their words…
During our two-day “Sweet Science Workshop: The Frozen World of Ice Cream,” participants used custom lab manuals to guide them through making ice cream in a bag, popping boba, fizzy sherbet, and chocolate magic hard shell, allowing them to hypothesise outcomes and record results.
While an overlapping activities week led to lower attendance than anticipated and the first batch of popping boba turned out a bit too jelly-like, the project successfully adapted by improving the recipe on the second day and providing dedicated, hands-on guidance to individuals with less culinary experience.
Navigating the logistics and the intense summer heat across two days was an exhausting challenge, but working closely as a team kept operations steady, and seeing the participants truly enthused by the scientific explanations behind the treats made the effort incredibly rewarding.
Ultimately, the experience provided valuable lessons in flexible project management under pressure, sharpened teamwork and communication skills, and sparked a genuine excitement for science while successfully raising over double the initial funding.
