Their story, in their words…
My team and I created, Co-ordinated and preformed a play called “Never done before”. We were incredibly happy to have completed the project despite the problems that had arisen as well as the inner issues we had regarding our group members. We feel as if this experience has taught us how to co-ordinate together as a group, while helping make sure we are organised and structured well. When preforming as actors we learnt how to improvise in given moments along with how to help other team members remember their lines through prompting. And along with all this we feel we’ve learnt how to work efficiently as a team along with how to work under the leadership of others.
In regards to issues that have arisen while going about the project, we originally had a lack of interest with viewers, which lead to us deciding to make the play free, after looking back we saw that had we advertised better and sooner we likely would not have had this issue.
Due to having been unable to practice the technological aspect of the play, along with having had the member who intended to help us with they part, quit, we did end up getting a replacement but we’re unable to use the actual technology in the end due to not having practiced it and not knowing how to use the school’s tech.
The venue in which we preformed was organized already as per our request, but we had miscalculated the size of the non-fixed stage (as we hadn’t been able to practice on it at any point), originally we believed it was going to ruin our performance as there wasn’t enough room for the props or the props table, yet due to my team and is quick thinking we were able to bring out two benches to elongated the length of the stage for the table, which left out actors enough room to ‘die’ without having to do so on top of each other.
And while our costumes for the performance were based on the structured idea our director had supplied us with, we needed up deciding to mix her ideas with whatever we felt suited the character best from our own closets.
Our final issue, and quite an important one at that, was that during the actual performance one of our actors forgot their main lines and blanked completely on what they were meant to say, we helped them by prompting the next lines and by repeating part of the scene.
Over all we feel the experience has benefitted us a lot in terms of learning how to co-ordinate and work as a team.
