Their story, in their words…
Our hike started with an uncomfortably long coach journey into the centre of Glasgow early Monday morning. Once we arrived at our starting point and began our hike, we became aware of the challenges of carrying all the heavy equipment ourselves.
Our first day was predominantly up steep hills and we faced a particularly treacherous slope. Finding a good water source for our camp site turned out to be quite a struggle but once we found one, setting it up was at most damp.
The second day was consistent torrential rain which made out for a particularly uncomfortable day of hiking. Despite this we were all able to keep our spirits high and enjoy it. The intensity only increased over the last two days of our hike where we were met with more steep hills and tiresome journeys.
Once again, setting up camp was painless and enjoyable due to the weather’s improvement. Our relationship as a group was positive most of the time, and our friendships together improved massively. At times, we found that the hike tested our will power, especially when having to go up the very steep hills. Keeping motivation and morale high was a struggle at times, but we persevered.
Overall, despite there being moments of challenges and doubts, with some harsh rain which made setting up camp more difficult than expected, we found the experience of working together and being entirely independent to be very rewarding and refreshing. We learnt patience, determination and courage and are so grateful to be gifted with this fulfilling opportunity.
