Their story, in their words…
Our expedition was a long and arduous walk from Poole to Weymouth over 5 days, stopping at campsites in between while we were incredibly fortunate to see the beautiful landmark of Durdle door and got the opportunity to fossil hunt at Osmington Bay beach. It was overall a successful and gratifying journey – but not without some adversity along the way as although we followed our prepared routes for the most part, at times we would have to make last minute changes to the journeys in order to see preferred sites or walk on more suitable elevations.
Upon reflection, this was definitely a transformative experience for our group as we were fully able to immerse ourselves in the beauty of nature which was facilitated by our own personal challenge of a social media ban during our trip. This detox proved to be very beneficial for all of us as we were able to be more present, focussing on the beautiful landscapes and scenery which you do not get in the capital. Our reconnection with nature also led to a collective moment of introspection for all of us as we all realised how accustomed we all are to urban life – this expedition was a great way to expose ourselves to a different way of life outside of the city. We also got to meet new people along the way and better learn the true capacity that people have for generosity and kindness through the many different kinds of people that helped us along the way.
