Their story, in their words…
We began in Okehampton on day 1 and had to get to Plymouth by day 5 for our coach. We spent a majority of our time hiking in the Dartmoor wilds. We travelled through fields, mountains, hills and along rivers, out of the hiking experience we gained resilience , this was perhaps the most enduring task for all of our group members and especially for certain group members who have little camping experience it was certainly an enduring but rewarding experience.
In addition to hiking we had the privilege of meeting locals who all greeted us with exceptional hospitality. A highlight is within Princeton where a local store owner told us of a route with more sights to see while reaching our camping spot at the same time with the same distance walked.
Time management was a skill which we all collectively agree that has been bolstered significantly during our trip, having to weigh our options between a longer time sleeping or cooking with our gas stove and more time to walk with longer breaks, this would help us especially on day 2 which was the most difficult of all our days having the most distance to travel with the most uphill walk, up lots of mountains from rival tor to our next destination of near changford common, however despite this we arrived at our camping spot on time for day 3.
Our trip wasn’t without it’s difficulties however, as on day 3 due to poor sleep we had a late start to our walk and had to due to exhaustion set our tent near bonehill within the wild camping range, this was a frustrating set back for our group, however despite this we were not disheartened and on day 4 we made up for this.
Overall each of our group members feels they have personally completed a momentous achievement and have left the trip feeling fulfilled, along with this we got the ability to problem solve and compromise when faced with adversity.
