Wicklow Way Hike (Ireland)

Their story, in their words…

Over our 6 day wild camping hike in Ireland, we started from Marley park and ended in Tinahely. We travelled through forests, swam in lakes and rivers, and learnt practical skills such as making fires from scratch.

Overall, the trip was very successful! We were very lucky with the weather and the rules of wild camping were very easy to understand and flexible – especially with the friendliness of the Irish ! We met many hikers along the way, and became familiar with their faces which was very relieving and made it a very pleasant experience.

Both being introduced to a completely new country, we were very excited to be camping in Ireland and being exposed to the nature and wildlife around us. The serenity of the environment made us feel very peaceful and it was a welcome change from the chaotic city we are so used to.

It enabled us to work around difficult times and stay calm, think logically and problem solve in very real situations. By independently travelling across such a distance, these skills not only can be used in travel but in everyday life, during exam stress and academic pressure. By being given this opportunity, it has encouraged us to be more curious about exploring and wild camping globally!
