Their story, in their words…
This summer, our group of five completed our cycling trip from Calais to Brussels and back again. Over the course of the trip, we completed hundreds of kilometres across northern France and Belgium, working together to complete the long hours of riding. We saw landmarks in Bruges and Brussels, and also a First World War cemetery in Flanders.
Despite the odd mechanical issue, we made every objective according to schedule. The project was a success, as we completed it through detailed planning, teamwork, and commitment. Completing the challenge was both challenging and deeply rewarding. Even though the days of cycling were long and tiring, we pulled through, and because of this, we feel an immense sense of achievement and pride.
The experience has taught us resilience and also problem-solving skills and the value of preparation and teamwork. We have also gained confidence by completing a challenge which initially felt intimidating to start. More importantly, we saw how bringing a group together for a shared goal can make a difference. Knowing that our efforts helped to raise money for other youths to complete similar trips made the journey very meaningful, and we will always remember this experience. Thank you to the Mark Evison Foundation for sponsoring this life-changing challenge.
