Their story, in their words…..
For my Mark Evison project I decided to create an animation/animatic. The animation/animatic I made was the story of how I became friends with people at my secondary school retold in a fantasy setting. Retelling the story in a new environment would make the more interesting and challenging as I would have to make changes to characters due to the adaptation.
Doing this project I enjoyed the pre-production i.e. the storyboard, character design and brainstorming as I could freely create ideas. Whilst making the animation I enjoyed sketching out the frames but I disliked doing the line art for them as they didn’t replicate the original feel sketch.
During this drawing process my laptop broke down as I was finishing the animation so I had to start all over again which was very frustrating as I had put a lot of time and effort into the first animation as it was coloured, dispute this obstacle, it allowed me to redraw frames and shorten down scenes to save time. This change in direction has actually made me more pleased with this outcome than the original.
Another fun section of the animation process was the voice acting. The voice acting allowed me to step out of my comfort zone and embody characters I have created in a way I haven’t before. Along with voice acting, editing the frames together was challenging as I had to change frame rates, and implement transitions to help my work become more stylised.
Things that I have taken from my Mark Evison project are a new sense of determination and motivation for ideas that take a long time. Trying to see how things will turn out in the future has kept me on track to continuing my animation. Due to the mishap with my laptop, this project has also reminded me to back up files or important things I have in case of an incident like this so the workflow won’t be affected.
