Their story, in their words…
For our Mark Evison trip we decided to walk the Great Glen Way across Scotland. This was a 6 day trip (5 days of walking) from Fort William to Inverness wild camping along the route in fields and forests. The trip was 122km with roughly 350m elevation at its peak. Our group included 5 of us, Matthew, Caspar, Tim, Hyunsik and Ivo. We managed to stay on schedule throughout the trip meaning we reached Inverness with plenty of time to catch our coach back to Victoria station.
As a group we were both physically and mentally challenged. As beautiful as Scotland was, the weather was a considerable obstacle. The frequent downpour of rain added significantly to the mental challenge of the trip. The walk required a lot of endurance as an average of 25km per day while carrying all our equipment wore us down. There was also a concentration of uphill on the penultimate day which we found very demanding. We learnt to conserve our water and make the most of the brief breaks in small towns. The battle of eating food whilst being attacked by hungry midges has made us grateful for our homes. Many of us were surprised by what we were able to achieve after pushing ourselves in a new way.
Overall the trip pushed us all out of our comfort zones in different ways. We came out of it with sore feet, more confidence and a valuable new experience. For these reasons, we are incredibly grateful for the opportunity that Mark Evison provided.
