Their story, in their words…
As a group, for Mark Evison, we decided to do a “Fun Day” at Carter’s House Care Home in Raynes Park. This included bringing games, snacks, and colouring to the care home where we also had chats with the residents and found out about what they like and their early lives. We got there around 10am and were fully set up by 10.30. Then residents began to enter the room we had set up, and we welcomed them by offering drinks and snacks. We then engaged in crafts and games with the residents on different tables.
As a team, we were all slightly nervous to do this as it was different to things we had done before and we weren’t sure what to expect. Once we set up and the residents started to come into the room, we then started to feel more comfortable and began talking to different people. I think this was a good experience for us all and we gained confidence, independence and knowledge as we had to adapt to a different environment and planned the project by ourselves.
This meant that we had to use budgeting skills, planning and rearranging throughout the weeks to ensure that the date, snacks, and activities were appropriate for the age group we were working with. I think that this benefited our group as we learnt and developed vital skills such as budgeting, independence and confidence which can help us further on in life and with different projects. Overall, we believe that this was a successful project and it worked out quite well for our team.
