Their story, in their own words….
Report of the whole project: From day one of planning we planned vigorously to find the best parts that would suit the pc with the money we were given by Mark Evison foundation…Once we finalised the parts, we went on a shopping spree , not the same as what your thinking, but a rush to compare all the sites to get ‘Bang for the buck’ checking all the online computer shops and it was tough because every day the prices of the pc parts kept fluctuating. You check it one day and with a blink of the eye the price changes we did think of getting parts second hand but it was too risky as it will have no protection for damage or if the part don’t come or Is not working we will not get our money back or pay a lot to get it returned. So we stuck to what we thought was best and stick with known websites where we can also get warranty for all our parts, which of course came with extra expense.
….Thankfully, all parts were delivered in the matter of a day or a week ‘free amazon prime for one month ;)’ and we then had to plan the right day for all of us to come to my house for the build. Day by day I was getting overly anxious thinking what if it does not work but my family reassured it will be okay.
DAY OF BUILD:
It was August 22 2019, I remember vividly the night before I went out and bought snack for the build to keep us motivated. And prepped everything night before laid out all the parts on my table / work top where we were going to build the pc. Had an early night and in the matter of a ‘bit’ it was the next day.
My friends arrived at my house at around 12 o’clock midday and we wasted no time we ripped , carefully, all of the boxes open and mounted on our task ahead. We quickly found out it wasn’t as easy as we expected and struggled doing the most easiest part of the build: screwing 4 screws into the motherboards. This is probably regarded as the most easiest part like a monkey can do it and have no troubles we kept on screwing it in the wrong direction and as the screwdrivers were magnetic when we moved the screwdriver the screw kept flying out and we ended up searching for the screw for years in the depth of my think carpet. Luckily we found it and got back to the build. For some off reason the more easier parts of the build were made to look the most hardest and the harder parts were done swiftly. We even found slotting in ram sticks hard. We finally then managed to put the parts together and we were in awe when we turned it on for the first time. Although that wasn’t the most pleasant of moments because when Sakib turned or should I say pressed the button it wasn’t the button to turn the pc on it was actually the button to change the LED on our computer so for a second we thought we broke it turns out my friend was just pressing the wrong button when we turned it on it was the most satisfying feeling ever after a whole day of screwing , EATING, and screwing, AND EATING, we finally was able to accomplish our goal and then we realised we weren’t finished at it was getting late but we still had to install windows and all the software’s on the computer and then start the overclocking process.
…Clocking was a new thing so it took us time to get used to , its sort of a trial and error and is used to speed up the computer beyond the manufacturer’s specifications in order to run faster. Common in the gaming world, overclocking the CPU is accomplished by changing the clock ratio of the front side bus (FSB) in the BIOS setup (see CPU multiplier).
After a good days work we were satisfied with how it went even though we made beginner mistakes but overall very happy and thankful to Mark Evison foundation for making my dream come true.
