Why are we not doing our part?
We still remember that we planned to do gardening and from there it turned into a research project, where we decided to make a documentary. This project gave us the chance to do so many first together and we will be forever grateful to Mark Evison foundation for encouraging us to come out of our comfort zone and experience independence. There were undoubtably many things we learned through this project. From travelling to another city by ourselves for the first time to making decision for our own project without any help from any adults or anyone.
After getting officially selected to do our project we start our journey on 17th when we bought the mic and the seed bombs from Amazon and as you can see on your right, we prepared these bags with seed booms inside as a small gift for our participants. Then on 22nd June, we faced out first difficult challenge, we tried the camera, and found that the SD card is faulty. Which is why we bought another SD card. We also bought the tickets for Bristol, which fortunately were lower than what we had expected, which allowed us to even out our extra costs. 17th of June we went to Stratford and conducted our first interview.
After interviewing a few people, we understood that not many people understand the concept of Climate Change. However, we finished everything surprisingly early, by 16:30. Weirdly, we discovered a very important lesson of life, is that if you wake up early you always have more time in your hands. After which we went 17th July we got out of our houses at 7 o’clock via bus, we went to Victoria Coach Station, where our coach was at 8 o’clock, which we were almost going to miss.We arrived at Bristol Coach Station at 10:30, earlier than expected. After 11 minutes of walking, we reached the Floating Harbour, we started to take videos of the harbour, then started to interview people.We bought our dinner and left for our coach. Our coach was late 10 minutes, 21:25. We reached Victor Coach Station at 23:55. It was one of the best parts as we have never been alone that late in night.
Later that night we took some videos from Tower Bridge and reached our home at 2 o’clock. 4th August 6:30 we were at Victoria Coach Station, we reached Southampton at 10 o’clock, we whole day we took footage of the city, and interviews. At 10:25 we got our coach and reached London at 1 o’clock. 9th August at 3:30am we left our homes and went to Westminster Bridge to get our sunrise footage. Once again, we are grateful to mark Evison, without this project we would’ve have been able to witness the beautiful sunrise. We had some complications with the angle, but we got it right at the end. However, at 5:35 the SD Card got full, and we did not get the crucial footage. Immediately, we were upset as we were worried that we might have to come back again. Later on, we figured out that, the footages we got are enough.
After getting all the footages, we had one last thing to do before we could start our editing. Manging to get the voiceover done. 10th August at 16:00 we started the editing the script of our video.
After 10 days we started recording the voice of our female voice artist and the next day we recorded the voice of out male voice artist.
Finally, we got all out footages, the voice recording but now it came down to hardest part (editing the videos). None of us had any prior experience of video editing yet we wanted the video to be watchable. We cannot forget to mention about the “tripod” as it gave us lots of trouble, while carrying but of course the tripod made it easy for us to record the interviews. From 22nd August We started editing our video, mixing the voice recordings with the videos. Organising the interviews. Yet it wasn’t easy, but we both kept trying different techniques to make ourselves familiar and better with the editing skills.
As we were editing on 23rd August, we realised that we had made mistakes on the scrip. We got worried because it could change the whole concept of the video. But our voiceover artist was kind enough to do that line again.
The mistake was ours but we it was our first time and we learned from our mistakes. There is photo of us while editing our video.
Finally, on the 25th of august we finished editing and as we watched the whole video for the first time, it was a moment to remember forever, both of us burst into tears. The video turned out much better than we expected. We spend our summer on this project, and we did not expect the video to be like this. It was beyond our imagination.
