Lake District Hike

Their story, in their words…

Our Mark Evision excursion to the Lake District was truly a challenging yet amazing one. Definitely one that will not be forgotten.

The trip to Carlisle to Whitehaven and then to Ravenglass went rather smoothly and even though it was around 7am when we got to Ravenglass, we were enthusiastic. Unfortunately we were met with our first dilemma – walking to the campsite took roughly about 9hrs and on top of that we also got lost a couple of times, having to hike up steep hills and walk extensive distances wasn’t something we were expecting but as a group, we endured and managed to get to the campsite and pitch our tends with ease at around 8pm. A hurdle? Indeed, but we persevered.

The next three days really pushed us to our limits, with us hiking across mountains and crossing lakes and rivers but the nature that we were able to see was all so worth it- it was so beautiful! Eating and cooking food wasn’t so much of an issue until we ran out of fuel and although we had times where we were conflicted on what we ate, it all helped us practice conquering difficult situations with the resources we had. Reaching the last day, we had to hike back to Ravenglass for our 7am train. It was definitely the most challenging but once again, we persevered as a team, regardless of how exhausted we were. I really want to thank on behalf of the team for the great opportunity you have given to us! It was a true highlight of our summers and definitely one that would never be forgotten!

Thank you so much Mark Evison!

Janelle: My experience at Mark Evison was challenging but an incredibly rewarding one. These experiences taught me the importance of resilience, patience and pushing through difficult situations, and has taught me to be patient, laugh, relax and appreciate. Thank you for giving me the chance to take part I would absolutely love the opportunity to participate again in the future.

Henrietta: Taking part in the five-day Mark Everson hiking trip was an experience that I will remember for a very long time. Throughout the five days, we explored so many different parts of the landscape, saw different animals and experienced beautiful scenery that made all of the walking feel worthwhile. One of my favourite moments was reaching the lake, where we were able to take a break, appreciate the scenery and have a swim. After spending so much time hiking, being able to relax in the water and enjoy the surroundings was such a refreshing and memorable experience.

Another really important part of the trip was the people I met. We had the opportunity to socialise with so many different people, including people I would probably never have met otherwise, and spending five days together gave us plenty of opportunities to communicate, work together, share experiences and form new friendships. Whether we were hiking, setting up camp, eating together or simply talking at the end of the day, I really enjoyed the sense of community that developed throughout the trip.

Shekinah: Our expedition in the Lake District was an extremely challenging and character building experience. The hikes were extremely difficult, but they ultimately proved that we are much stronger than we think, and the views of the immense mountains were incredibly rewarding. Being able to connect with nature helped us gain a deeper appreciation for the natural world and reminded us that we are merely a small part of an expansive world. Overall, although the trip tested our relationships and endurance, it provided an unforgettable experience that I consider life changing.

Angel: Initially I wasn’t optimistic about this trip however, being able to push myself to my limits whilst holding my head up really opened up a new perspective of myself alongside being able to conquer through challenges which we had doubt in or thought we couldn’t achieve. Not only was I able to connect with nature and assimilate into the beauties of the world which I was astonished by, I was also able to grow a closer bond with the people I was with, regardless of the hardships we all faced. I wholeheartedly appreciate the opportunity given to us as not only did it test hardships, but it also unlocked a new me; one that stays optimistic through all times of joys and hardships and for that I thank you.
