Peak District hike

Their story, in their words…

As a group of three, we successfully completed a challenging 6-day, 110km hike through the Peak District. The journey involved steep climbs, difficult terrain and navigating around sheep and cows, while also taking in incredible views such as Mam Tor and Hope Valley. Although the hikes were physically demanding and there were moments when we felt tired, we never gave up and continued to push ourselves until we completed each day. Our organisation and navigation skills drastically improved throughout the challenge, which helped us become more confident and work more effectively as a team.

One of the most rewarding parts of the experience was how much closer we became as a group. Staying at the same campsite each night allowed us to build a strong relationship with the campsite owners and the local community, making the whole experience feel very welcoming and wholesome. We also had to rely on each other throughout the trip, from cooking together to sharing a small tent and supporting one another when we were struggling. The cold nights were particularly challenging, as we had to layer up and find ways to keep warm, but even these difficult moments became enjoyable because we experienced them together. We would often watch movies in the tent at the end of the day, which gave us a chance to relax, laugh and spend time together after long hikes. These small moments made the trip feel much more personal and brought us closer together. The highlight of the trip was watching the eclipse together, especially after a long and challenging day due to the kindness of a lady who gave us eclipse glasses for free during our hike.

As inexperienced hikers, completing the challenge was tough both physically and mentally. There were times when we were exhausted and the distance ahead felt difficult, but we encouraged each other and refused to give up. This experience pushed us outside of our comfort zones and helped us develop both resilience and endurance. It also taught us that difficult situations become much easier when you have people around you who are willing to support and motivate you. Overall, the trip gave us a greater sense of independence while also showing us the importance of teamwork and friendship. As an underrepresented group within the hiking community, we hope our experience can inspire others to get outdoors and show that hiking can be safe and an enjoyable way to connect with nature.
