Ben Nevis hike

Their story, in their words…

Last May, our group used the support of the Mark Evison Foundation and climbed Ben Nevis. We planned for months, packing layers, snacks, and left with high hopes. Starting from the Glen Nevis Visitor Centre, the trail began Slightly uneventful, with nice scenery, lots of wildlife and sightly views.

However about an hour and a half into the journey, things got tougher. The zigzagging path felt endless, and the higher we climbed, the rockier and more challenging it became.

Crossing the halfway point at Red Burn was a relief, but by then, we were well above the treeline, surrounded by stark grey rocks and patches of snow. We even considered turning back, as snacks depleted and our water reserves dropped.

The final stretch was challenging. Mist closed in, the temperature dropped to negatives, and the wind bit hard. The stone cairns, and the steep climb ahead, was shorter, but taxing. We finally touched the summit trig point, standing at 1,345 meters. The mist blocked the views, but the feeling of success was unforgettable.

The descent wasn’t easy on our knees, but everything felt rewarding at the end, and we had accomplished one of the most physically challenging feats in the UK
