Building a guitar

Their story, in their words…

The guitar performs well now and is in pristine condition. The wires have been correctly soldered and work efficiently. However, there were several setbacks throughout my project. I had mistakenly mixed up 2 different types of guitars: the Telecaster which is the guitar that I was aiming to make and the Stratocaster, which happened to be the body of my guitar which unfortunately made the electronics of my guitar fit in odd angles. Thus, making the strings too high but it is still able to play notes, which I am proud of. I do plan on eventually removing the electronics and replacing them with parts compatible with the Stratocaster body, but that is beyond the project, and I plan to fund it on my own.

It was an intuitive process as there were many hurdles, I had encountered, and I did not realise that it would cause an issue. However, I am proud of my creation, I feel ecstatic to call it self-made even with its hiccups. I learnt many new skills which included soldering wires of the different electronic components of the guitar, drilling into the wooden base of the guitar that allowed me to place screws into and thus developing my skill in wood crafting.

I have also learnt vital values like patience as the pieces of glue I had stuck together needed time to dry and set. Initially, I rushed into the project causing me to rework as many parts kept falling apart due to the ineffective glue method I had been using. This also helped me develop my resilience when I needed to fix the issues of my guitar.

Overall it has been a great experience I wish to thank Mark Evisons Foundation for giving me such an enthralling experience.
