Their story, in their words…
For our project, my team and I planned and completed a multi-day hiking and camping trip across Dartmoor. We organised the route ourselves, carried our equipment and supplies, navigated between different locations and worked together throughout the hike. The trip involved walking long distances each day across different terrain, while also having to manage our energy, equipment and time.
Overall, the trip worked out really well. There were definitely challenging moments, especially when we became tired after walking for a long time or when the terrain made progress slower than expected. However, we supported each other and kept going as a team. Planning beforehand also helped us feel more prepared and made it easier to deal with problems along the way.
I really enjoyed the experience because it was completely different from my normal routine. Being out on Dartmoor gave me a sense of independence and made the trip feel like a real achievement rather than just a normal day out. There were moments where I had to push myself physically and mentally, but reaching our destinations made the effort worth it.
The biggest thing I gained from the project was confidence. I improved my navigation, teamwork, communication and problem-solving skills, but I also learnt that I am capable of taking on something challenging and seeing it through. It has made me more confident about doing similar outdoor challenges in the future and showed me the importance of preparation and working together.
