Their story, in their words…
On the 6th of April, we arrived on a coach from the iconic London Victoria station to Penrith, before meeting with our arranged taxi which took us to Seathwaite Farm Campsite. We then began our journey to and left Seathwaite, and over the course of the next 4 days, we summitted Scafell Pike and Helvellyn with no major issues.
In-between locations, we wild camped at high altitudes, in remote locations, close to sources of water which proved useful for our basic needs, cooking and drinking.
Overall, it worked out very similar to how we anticipated, we had consistently good camping spots, with constantly available supplies of water. The weather was also very good, with everyday being sunny and over 15 degrees, so we had no problems with our equipment being wet, or tents flooding.
However, we had brought waterproof covers and equipment just incase it did unexpectedly rain. In terms of our hiking, the routes up to Scafell Pike and Helvellyn were relatively smooth, with some areas having a very steep gradient and a rocky climb, but nothing obstructing or delaying our summits
We believe our trip went very well, no matter where we were, we constantly had very scenic views and favourable conditions. It was a very delightful trip; we bought and used all the gear and equipment we had.
However, if we were to do it again, we probably would have used an alternative to pot porridge and noodles for our breakfast and lunch, as some of ours would burst open/implode while on our walks (we unfortunately had to have cold peri peri chicken for breakfast on some days as a result) Additionally, we would have brought more toilet paper and water purifying tablets, as we ran very low on both towards the end and had to ration both.
As a result of this trip, we have all significantly improved our outdoor skills, in terms of cooking, camping. For much of our group, it was our first time being in an environment such as the lake district, and especially by ourselves without adult supervision and support. This made us take responsibility for our actions and helped us improve our ability to be independent in our work.
This experience as helped us improve these skills and learning to be an independent individual and to be more responsible for what we do, which is a transferrable skill to almost anything in life.
