Their story, in their words…..
Over the summer holiday we challenged ourselves to cycle to Southwold and back, a
total distance of more than 350km. We began training for the cycle a month before,
gradually increasing the distance we cycled. Also, in preparation, we took part in bike
awareness courses, planned our route and purchased the bike supplies we needed,
such as cycling shorts and tops. It was a surprising how much time the planning took
and this was a valuable experience.
We were all nervous about the ride, wondering about our fitness and how we would
be able to keep going – we worked hard to encourage each other and were very
relieved and happy when we arrived in Southwold! This was the longest cycle any of
us had undertaken by a long way – it was tough. The way back was especially
challenging as we were exhausted. We had regular breaks for food and slept at
campsites at the end of the day.
Our route went smoothly. It wasn’t as sunny as we expected, and we did experience
some rain over the four days and a head wind on the way back, making it more
difficult. However, we are all very pleased with how the challenge went – we loved
the experience – we learnt a lot and had a lot of fun.
