Their story, in their words….
Our challenge was to ride 60 miles from London to Brighton. To do this we went on bike rides every other day starting off with a small mileage and slowly increasing. In the beginning we found 20 miles intense however as the days passed, we accomplished this without any struggles. We increased the mileage in the span of 2 weeks. While practicing we made sure to focus on hilly areas as we knew this would be the most tiring bit. We wanted to take on this high-risk task as it demonstrated our perseverance skills coming to the end of Brighton but also because it helped our mental well-being during this time.
On the 31st of August we began our journey to Brighton, taking a train at 5am in the morning to London Bridge where we began our journey. We were very nervous, but our joy took over. The weather in the morning wasn’t the best as it was very cloudy but as the day went on it started to become much better especially by the time we got to Brighton the sun came out which was fantastic. We started cycling on the roads of central London, however we didn’t realise the roads would become busy and hectic which meant we had to be more vigilant as cars were everywhere. After, we were able to get on the cycle route which we felt more comfortable on due to the rush hour. We kept a good pace during the cycle and took breaks after every 15-20 miles, eating something small before carrying on. This helped us as it kept us going, giving us energy as if we ate something big, we knew we would get tired faster. Coming up to the end we started getting tired and what made it worse was going up and down hills as there were quite a few, however we knew we could accomplish this, and we were almost there so with some pushing we overcame the last few miles. Reaching Brighton by 1 ish was an accomplishment for us and we were over the moon. We relaxed for the remaining hours before taking the train back home.
