Their story, in their words…
When I realised I could go to a professional recording studio through the Mark Evison Foundation, I saw this to be the perfect opportunity for me to finally bring my music to life! I had been writing plenty of original songs over many years but never had the courage to share them with people, or programme them in a finalised way that would be ready for release – this was what my project aimed to overcome.
In July, I booked and did an 8-hr long recording session at Mill Hill Music Complex with their amazing sound engineer Fil. In preparation for this, I thoroughly planned out and practiced all the live vocals/guitar/piano parts that I would all be playing in each of the four songs of mine that I chose to be in my EP, so that the session would be as efficient as possible. However, in the sitting, recording the guitar parts took much longer than expected which meant that there was little time to record piano parts – on the other hand, I was able to successfully record all of the vocals that I needed for each song and I am really happy with how they sound. This experience of working in a professional studio was truly incredible, I have learnt so much on how recording live music works in its process with an engineer and in using the technology.
As a fundraiser for the foundation, I ran a pop-music-trivia-quiz stall in my school’s Summer Fair. Organising an event like this required a large amount of resources and prep; this showed me a lot about responsibility and management especially in running it all by myself; the fundraiser was a really great experience that I had never done before, and I was able to support the MEF, giving back to them so they can continue helping young people in pursuing their dreams!
