Their story, in their words…
Day 1 – Travel to Tintwistle. Our expedition began with travelling from London Victoria to Manchester by coach. From Manchester, we continued our journey by train to Tintwistle. Once we arrived, we walked approximately two miles to our first campsite, where we settled in for the night and prepared for the following day.
Day 2 – Tintwistle to Edale. We started the day by hiking along the Pennine Way from Tintwistle towards Glossop. We then continued towards Bleaklow Head before making our way into Glossop town centre. From there, we caught a local bus to Edale, where our next campsite was located. The entire journey took approximately seven hours, making it one of the longest days of the expedition.
Day 3 – Kinder Scout. We set off from Edale and walked towards Upper Booth before climbing Jacob’s Ladder. From there, we continued up onto Kinder Scout and explored the surrounding area before descending back towards Edale. We passed Grindsbrook Knoll on the way back. The hike took approximately six hours and involved some challenging climbs, but the views made the effort worthwhile.
Day 4 – Lord’s Seat and Castleton. We set off from Edale and made our way towards Lord’s Seat, where we were rewarded with amazing views across the Peak District. We then continued towards Castleton, travelling through the scenic Cave Dale. After exploring Castleton, we made our way back to Edale. The hike took approximately six hours, so after such a long day we treated ourselves to dinner at the local pub in Edale.
Day 5 – Mam Tor and Lose Hill. On Day 5, one of our team members injured his knee and unfortunately had to remain at the campsite to rest. The rest of us continued with the expedition, setting off towards Mam Tor. We then walked over to Lose Hill before following the River Noe back towards Edale. The hike took approximately six and a half hours and was another challenging but rewarding day.
Day 6 – Journey Home. On our final day, we packed up our equipment and began our journey home after completing our expedition. After six days of hiking, travelling and camping, we finished the expedition having covered a large section of the Peak District and experienced a variety of challenging routes and landscapes.
