‘Pip’s Not Perfect’, a children’s picture book

Their story, in their words…

This summer, the three of us worked together to create our children’s picture book, ‘Pip’s Not Perfect’. The story follows Pip, an unusual little pea who gets kicked out of a fancy restaurant kitchen for not being perfect enough. Pip soon finds himself in a composting site with a bunch of discarded and unloved fruit and veg. Desperate to get back, he tries to escape, but a chance meeting with a smelly old egg completely changes his perspective.

Initially, we thought this project would be smooth sailing, we thought it would be done and dusted with weeks to spare! We couldn’t have been more wrong! Finishing the book took hours of brainstorming, hundreds of sketches and endless trips to Brixton Library. But despite all the scribbles and squabbles, we had a phenomenal time.

The journey not only brought us closer together but also encouraged us to step out of our comfort zones. In fact, it has given us the confidence to organise and host a book launch in the coming weeks! We are so grateful to the Mark Evison Foundation for this opportunity as we have gained so much from this project. We’ve strengthened our teamwork, unlocked our creativity, understood how to create a meaningful story for children and transformed our self-belief. We are incredibly proud of what we have accomplished.
