Their story, in their words…
For our Mark Evison award, we visited the Lake district national park on a 4-day wild camping and hiking adventure. During our hikes, we climbed the highest peak in England – Scafell Pike.
Throughout, we pitched our tents in quiet areas overnight before setting off early on our hikes. We walked an average of 30km daily, which presented a physical challenge in which we had to manage both heat and altitude. Despite the challenges, we completed our planned route, while enjoying it all thoroughly, especially swimming in the lake districts renowned lakes.
We chose this challenge as it combined a challenging factor with the enjoyment of the beautiful scenery, we found ourselves in, while navigating through the vast national park. Our standout moment during our trip was watching the solar eclipse, followed by watching a meteor shower under the stars. Over the trip, we gained both confidence and experience wild camping, while developing our friendships with one another.
