Their story in their words…
Our trip started in Edinburgh where due to confusion and lack of sleep we struggled to find our way out the city. However with a bit of luck and leadership we eventually made it to the coastal cycle route where we found scenic views and landmarks such as castles and a large power station. However due to an unexpected bollard we found ourselves in a repair shop in Dunbar which eventually led us to arriving late to Berwick therefore we spent the night in a hostel. After a tiring day of cycling we all felt pretty defeated.
In the morning we woke up to a chilling Scottish breeze and had he running water of the river tweed. We set of quickly West however soon found our team member was not fit to continue. Therefore we were one man down. This was a small set back however we pushed on to our second destination: Selkirk. Just 10minutes before we arrived Eshan crashed on a downhill and we found ourselves scrambling for somewhere to sleep. Eventually we found a camping spot and slept through the cold night.
Day 3 brought new challenges, after completing 200km in two days we were all tired and the injured Eshan required a rest day. We decided to shorten the third day and only push to Biggar. This was a good break from the hectic days we started with. Upon arriving we once again found a nice spot to camp and managed to sleep through heavy rain and wind.
Day 4 was a struggle as we wanted to make up for the shortened last day. We followed along a canal for over 20km with long tunnels and we also saw the Falkirk wheel. The flat road was a smooth ride and brought good morale to the team.
The final day was a true representation of Scottish weather, torrential rain and high winds. However with grit and determination we made it to Edinburgh only one man down and without any missing items. Having completed 450km we were all excited to be finished but sad it was over. The trip was a great learning experience and allowed us to create new bonds and discover our limits. We have considered this trip a great success.
