Their story, in their words…
Before taking part in the Mark Evison Award, I had a 4-year break from playing the violin, so getting back into it was quite difficult at first. Over the past 6 months, I have taken up practising the violin again and have worked on 3 pieces, as well as some Grade pieces. After practising the pieces, I went to Mill Hill Studios to perfect, perform and record my 3 pieces, which were Salvatore by Lana Del Rey, A thousand years by Christina Perri and river flows in you, a violin piece by Yiruma.
I really enjoyed doing this award as it pushed me out of my comfort zone. It helped me become more confident and improved my discipline, as I had to practise every day without procrastinating. It also taught me that if I keep practising and putting effort in, I can accomplish my goals even if something feels difficult at first. It gave me the opportunity to experience something I had never done before, like recording in a proper studio.
Overall, I feel like the award has helped me become more confident in trying new things and taking on challenges. It has also made me more disciplined and structured, and shown me that I can achieve something if I stay committed and put the effort in.
