Their story, in their words…
The project I did for the Mark Evison Foundation was a two minute short animation exploring the idea of avoiding reality and using something to distance yourself from what is happening around you. Through the animation, which I did in Ibispaint, I could communicate this idea visually rather than verbally.
This project had different stages across its production. I initially put all the ideas I had on a storyboard to decided on the theme as well as how the animation would progress. Once that was done, I sketched key sections of the storyboard, allowing me to have an improved vision of the overall story and mood, kick-starting my animation.
The biggest challenges I went through was managing my time and getting used to the medium used. Translating still images into animated sections felt rewarding but in order to achieve this I had to approach my ideas differently to work more fluently between each image. Another thing that felt rewarding was being able to adapt and familiarise myself with the program used throughout my journey in the animation.
This challenge taught me that creating a finished piece is not only about having a good idea, but also about being patient, well-organised and willing to adapt throughout the process to make something that surpasses your original goal.
