Their story, in their words…
Having already plotted out the narrative of the film, we location scouted, walking between Chesham and Amersham, capturing images of both the area, and our characters traversing through it. We enjoyed the ability to escape London, and make the film in what truly felt like the countryside – lending itself to beautiful images of fields, forests and horizons.
We then had two days to film the main bulk (the journey) of our film, using the microphones we bought, comprised entirely of improvised dialogue in attempt to achieve a truly natural feel. Through conversations on music, film, and life, we hoped to immerse the audience in the minds of our characters, understanding their emotions and suchlike.
We edited as we shot, meaning the journey was edited before we begun our next series of shooting, which involved seeing the lives of our characters before they ran away and after they returned. Casting friends and family members in the roles, we shot basketball practice, chess games and so forth, further entering the lives of our characters.
Following all this, we edited the entire film together, clocking in around 40 minutes (feature-length), and commissioned the design of a poster, using a lovely image from the actual film, and licensed instrumental music to serve as the soundtrack, accompanying the images and furthering the themes of youthful disillusionment.
Finally, we screened our film at school, alongside a short behind-the-scenes documentary, where we sold posters and enjoyed ourselves.
