Peak District

Their story, in their words…

We climbed Mam tor, Kinder Scout and Rowlee pasture. They were challenging due to the steepness we had to walk up however the reward of reaching the top and seeing the views of the peak district from 600-700 meters high, made the challenge worth it. The overall hikes planned out very well.

We followed our routes correctly with os maps and coordinates whilst navigating by using compasses. For example we used these navigation and problem solving skills to walk across the top of Kinder Scout and have lunch at the top. We were able to manage our timings correctly and paced ourselves so that we were able to have regular breaks and get back to the campsite in good time.

The hikes were enjoyable and took up the majority of our day and we were able to explore other things such as caves and quarries.

One significant skill that we all gained from our trip to the peak district is responsibility. Due to us being on our own without any teachers/parents, we had to rely on ourselves to complete tasks such as washing dishes, keeping the tent clean and making meals. We also gained teamwork from this trip, from sharing the workload around the group.

We all felt comfortable the first couple of days and had lots of energy. I feel like our time and food management aside with our communication skills with eachother lead to us working well together and having an enjoyable time. As the week went on we started to feel fatigued however still had enough food to give us the energy to push through until sunday. On Sunday we were all excited to go home back to normal life and therefore had a good laugh on the way back.

We gained a new experience with our best friends and also learned to have responsibility and independence for ourselves.
