Their story, in their words…
We completed the west highland way (96 miles) in 6 days.
Day 1: We began in Milngavie and walked around 12 miles to Drymen with heavy backpacks full of camping equipment, food and supplies. The weight made the first day difficult as we adjusted to long-distance hiking, and we eventually wild camped in a cattle field.
Day 2: By far the hardest day, we deloaded our bags before walking 27 miles to Inversnaid through the toughest section along Loch Lomond. We arrived at a campsite around 10pm, soaked and exhausted, only to find our tent completely flooded. Luckily, the staff allowed us to sleep in their staff room.
Day 3: We walked around 20 miles from Inversnaid to Tyndrum in terrible weather, with around 30mm of rain leaving us soaked. Despite this, we pushed through to a campsite where we could finally dry our tent and sleeping bags.
Day 4: We walked around 13 miles in great weather, making the journey much easier. By now, our bodies had begun adapting to the long distances. We found a great wild camping spot on a hill, cooked our food and prepared for the journey ahead.
Day 5: We walked 15 miles towards Kinlochleven, reaching Kingshouse before tackling the infamous Devil’s Staircase, a steep zigzag ascent that pushed our exhausted legs to their limits. After we crossed the Devil’s Staircase, we continued to Kinlochleven and, injured and exhausted, slept under a bridge.
Day 6: With little sleep, injuries, soaked boots and heavy wet bags, me and Ranvir pushed through the rain from Kinlochleven to Fort William. After six extremely challenging days, we finally reached the finish and completed the West Highland Way, leaving us with an enormous sense of accomplishment and proving our determination and resilience.
