Their story, in their words…
As part of our Mark Evison Foundation project, we completed a 15 km hike and filmed a documentary to promote the importance of physical activity and healthy living. Our experience was amazing as well as challenging at times. We started our hike from Leigh on sea and hiked along Hadley castle and old Leigh. During the hike, we enjoyed spending time with each other, observing the beautiful sceneries and helping each other get through the rocky pathways.
We also made a documentary with the aim of encouraging people to become more physically active and to show that exercise does not necessarily require expensive equipment or access to a gym. Walking is accessible to people of many ages and fitness levels and can be incorporated into everyday life. For the documentary we focused on the importance of staying active and spending time outdoors. In our documentary we reflected on effect of exercise on our bodies and mind and also took footage of people’s opinion on barriers to exercise and things young people can do to be active. Some clips from the hike also formed part of the documentary. We recorded parts of our own experience to help share the message that small changes, such as walking more regularly, can contribute to a healthier lifestyle.
Overall, the hike was a valuable experience. It challenged us physically and mentally while allowing us to develop skills in planning, fundraising, communication and filmmaking. Most importantly, it helped us understand how a personal challenge can be used to promote health awareness and support a meaningful cause.
