Music EP: FEELS

Their story, in their words…

For the summer, I took on a challenge of composing and releasing an album called FEELS, consisting of five original pieces, three of which are instrumental. I began my composition by creating a mood board to define the genre, inspiration and the mood for each piece, which helped me to select appropriate instruments and melodic scales. I then hummed simple melodies and gradually built them into full instrumental tracks before recording my lyrics to complete the songs.

This journey was not easy, especially when I had to balance my studies and extracurricular alongside this project. When I first began the project, I had only minimal knowledge on music theory and composition, so I had to learn new techniques throughout the composing process. Writing lyrics to fit the instrumental tracks also challenged my creative problem-solving skills. When composing, the tool I was using, BandLab, frequently failed to save, so I had to screen record everything as a demo to transfer back into the previous file.

This ultimately led me to switch to a different composing tool.

Despite the obstacles I faced during this project, I found this experience extremely rewarding. The sense of pride and motivation when I saw the album starting to take shape was something that cannot be compared. Through this experience, I’ve refined my resilience, problem-solving skills, patience, and attention to detail, which are skills that I believe are essential for achieving goals in life. It also strengthened my creativity and confidence in tackling challenges independently.
