Their story, in their words…
Our hands-on project was building a rocket from scratch. This consisted of shaping materials, connecting circuitry, and optimising our design for aerodynamic advantage.
We built the rocket over a course of a few days, starting from the engine mount and working upwards towards the nose cone. As the rocket was from scratch, building the rocket required us to be creative.
Although at times it felt like we were out of ideas, we worked together to come up with a solution by always thinking innovatively. It taught us the value of teamwork in problem solving.
From this experience, we gained the skill of being able to think outside the box to produce ideas collaboratively. Furthermore, we carried out technical tasks we have never done before, such as sawing and assembling an engine.
Doing all these things independently is yet another skill and also built our confidence in being able to work without help or supervision. We also needed to develop the ability to identify and fix errors in our work when our rocket faced challenges and would not launch, requiring us to assess our creations critically and make necessary adjustments.
Overall, this was a huge learning experience for the both of us, especially as it was the biggest project we have completed so far. We picked up many new abilities thanks to this project.
The hard work we put in was incredibly rewarding as it was exciting to launch our own rocket and also raise money for charity at the same time. We are grateful that we had this opportunity to expand our skills individually and feel prepared for similar future challenges.
