Their story, in their words…
The generous support from the Mark Evison foundation allowed us to complete 5 day hike in Anglesey where we walked an average of 15miles a day which was a challenge, we also tried our best too navigate only by a paper OS map. Our theme was sunsets and sunrises so we aimed to take creative photos along the way.
Our journey began early on Monday the 24th of August. We got a train at 6:20 to arrive at Victoria Station . We then walked to Victoria Coach Station where we got a coach to Chester. We then got a train from Chester to Bangor which was the local village of our first campsite. We then walked from the station to our campsite for our first night. Over the 4 days of hiking we completed some of Anglesey coastal paths, where we saw lots of views of mountains including Snowdon, forest paths, beaches, sand dunes and roads. Our favourite route was when we walked the coastal path along the forest and beach, this was because it was more interesting and had lots of different views
During our hike we faced many challenges such as navigation, and travel delays. But the one which we believed to be the most challenging was the extreme weather conditions. On the first 2 days of our hike the weather was rather hot reaching levels of 27 and 28 degrees. This meant we had to take extra care when walking and ensure we stayed hydrated. We then woke up on the Wednesday to the start of a yellow warning thunder storm. The walk on the Wednesday only consisted of rain but once the night came the storm was in full force. This meant we had to take extra precautions to keep us and our equipment dry. This continued into the Thursday which made our walk more difficult but we perceived through and tried our best to keep our energy levels up. Once the Friday came about the weather began to calm but we were then faced with a new problem of our cancelled travel which we quickly navigated around and set off home after a great week.
Over all we really enjoyed our experience and made lots of memories we will look back on in years to come. We thank the organisation for helping us have this once in a lifetime experience.
