Their story, in their words…
Day 1- 5:35am was the arrival of our coach into Carlisle. Despite the exhaustion and definite sleep deprivation, the fresh countryside air and pure excitement of the journey ahead was not enough to dampen our spirits. After a short stroll through the local markets, we all set off walking, fuelled on adrenaline and a few oat breakfast bars.
Day 2- We set off, not knowing the walk that day would include the most challenging climbs, but most rewarding views. The 2nd day was an endurance challenge, involving the constant climbing up and down the crags, alongside the confused weather, undecided if it wanted to rain or bring the sun out every 5 minutes. After a few hours of walking, we entered our last hour, walking across the last stretch of fields whilst the sun slowly lowered behind, creating and unforgettable evening.
Day 3 – This day we were gifted with slightly less hills and truly being able to admire the walls’ history, coming across old ruins and streams that flowed through.
Day 4- It was agreed that the two boys Jordan and Ibrahim would catch the bus back to Carlisle for the coach this last morning, taking some of the equipment by bus, Ibrahim being tired from the weight of his bag against his shoulders. Despite them getting travel back the last day, Ruby and Beth wanted one last challenge together so hiked back to Carlisle, finding the boys eating what they missed out on over the last few days in McDonalds, before our late coach. We all felt extremely rewarded with what we have achieved, our independence and are grateful for the memories made.
