Their story, in their words…
We followed the trail map our group Captain had devised and along the way encountered some challenges that meant we had to revise the map to keep walking. Locals were quick to help when they could which made these hurdles easier to pass. We set off in Milngavie on the first day and ended in the W.H.W campsite later that night. The next day we hiked another 15 miles following the West Highland Way trail until we hit a campsite near the town of Drymen. The next day we took a rest since one of our bag-straps had snapped and another one of us had a temporary leg injury, so we used the day to recover.
One of the main issues we had was finding out that campsites we planned were not camp able as they were restricted. We overcame this issue by simply finding a spot that can be used as a campsite even though we had to walk even more We finished off the hike retracing our steps through the West Highland Way until we reached Milngavie, then it was just a short bus to Glasgow and a coach back to London.
Our group learnt a lot from this hike, we realised how helpful and kind the locals are. We also learnt to be more flexible with plans and to be able to adapt to situations like we did to find campsites. We learnt to be resilient and push through whenever we lost morale or we were tired as we knew it was necessary to get to a suitable place to camp and replenish for the next day.
