Lake District Hike

Their story, in their words…

We went hiking through the many mountains of the Lake District. We started by setting the tent up and making sure everything was in order (food, gear etc.) Every day we hiked up steep mountains and ensured we were able to complete our whole journey by stopping at various scenic destinations such as the Angle Tarn, Ullswater and more. The scenery was very beautiful which I believe empowered us to complete our long journeys.

We had to ensure we packed the right amount of food to give us the energy needed to walk around 15-20km each day. We ensured we meal prepped the day before and packed our bags properly to ensure no unnecessary items were brought.

We felt very accomplished being able to walk long distances and not giving up to the heat as it was above 20 degrees nearly every day! At the beginning, I was unsure that I could keep up the pace, however I persevered by keeping the music playing and having energy to keep going. Over time, the hiking got easier as I was becoming used to long distances and the slight fatigue that I felt.

Overall, this hike helped us because it proved we can dedicate time to a specific project and achieve what we aim for! We definitely developed our map reading skills further through using a map and compass for navigation and through going over and adjusting our plans every evening before the next day of hiking. The skills we improved most throughout this experience were our determination, independence and problem-solving skills.
