Their story, in their words…
Standing at the end of our expedition, looking back over the Pembrokeshire coastline we had spent days walking, we realised how much we had achieved together. The salt wind was still in our hair, our boots were caked with mud, and the cliffs stretched out in front of us, dropping into the clearest blue water. We travelled from London to the Pembrokeshire coast and completed a multi-day hike (roughly 18 miles a day), carrying everything we needed on our backs, navigating the route ourselves, camping each night, cooking our own meals, and relying on each other every step of the way.
The expedition was far more challenging than we expected. There were times when the steep hills seemed endless, our legs burned with every step, and the weight of our rucksacks dug into our shoulders until even standing still felt tiring. Our journey began with difficulty as one of us struggled with car sickness upon arrival, and by our final night, completely exhausted from relentless hikes and longing for home, sleep talking became a guest. Yet every difficult moment was balanced by something incredible. Watching the sun light up the cliffs, hearing the waves crash below us, and reaching quiet beaches after hours of walking reminded us why we had chosen this challenge. It’s not every day one receives the opportunity to disconnect and embark on a journey of self-discovery. Yet every day is a chance to become a little more connected to who we truly are.
What made the experience so special wasn’t just the scenery, but the way we became one with nature and with ourselves. The kindness of locals, the advice from experienced hikers, the smell of salt and seaweed, and the laughter we shared will stay with us forever. We stepped far outside our comfort zones and discovered resilience, independence, teamwork, and gratitude. Looking back, we don’t just remember the miles we walked, but every conversation, every joke, every ache in our shoulders, every bite of hot food after a long day, and every moment spent with Fairs together. The struggles we faced each day could never compare to the sheer happiness we shared. Appreciation and gratitude cannot describe the feeling of realising we had achieved it together. If asked what one thing we would change, the Mbappé special sums it up: “For example, uh, nothing.”
