Their story, in their words…
We were a group of three who spent five days hiking around Glen Nevis and the West Highland Way, finishing with a climb of Ben Nevis.
On Day 1, after arriving in Fort William on an overnight bus, we set out with heavy packs for our first campsite. The hike was tougher than expected, and our planned spot turned out to be too rocky. After an anxious extra hour of walking, we luckily found a soft, hidden clearing to pitch our tent.
On Day 2, We set off early, energized by the scenery. Our goal was Steall Waterfall, a 4–5 hour trek with frequent breaks to enjoy the views. The final stretch was tricky, with wet rocks and narrow paths. By evening, we camped facing the falls, though the midges quickly drove us into our tents.
On Day 3, at dawn we escaped the midges and headed to Glen Nevis campsite to leave our gear. At 2 pm we began our ascent of Ben Nevis. The climb was harder than expected, but after four hours we reached the summit.
On Day 4, we took a slow day to rest and reflect on having climbed the tallest mountain in the UK.
On Day 5, we packed up and walked back to Fort William to catch our bus home.
A lesson we all took from this experience was that anything is possible if you put your mind to it.
