Their story, in their words…
We went on a hike up the West Highland Way starting on the 8th of August, starting at Tyndrum and heading all the way up to Fort William on a 45 mile hike and ending our trip climbing Ben Nevis itself. The walk took us past beautiful scenery and pushed us to the limits when climbing some of the large hills such as the devil’s staircase on our journey. Overall, the team was really quite positive about it all, this is probably the largest task most of us have taken, and we completed it with very minimal problems. There were a few downs like suffering from all of the midges and flying ants at this time of year, but the scenery we were able to see and even just each other kept us going to complete the hike.
We are all extremely pleased that we have completed this hike and the largest peak in the UK, with most of the planning working out smoothly so that we could enjoy most of our time up in Scotland. I think we have all gained closer bonds to each other in order to get ourselves through some of the hardships and elevations we faced, but also a massive achievement of doing something like this. Without the Mark Evison Foundation, we probably would never have done anything like this as a group. Despite this, I am certainly relieved I never have to see another midge ever again, and avoid some of the food that we subjected ourselves to.
