Their story, in their words…
Our project was a 5-day hiking and wild camping challenge in the Lake District. As a group of five friends we planned our route, carried the equipment and supplies we needed, and spent several days hiking through the Lake District while camping overnight. Alongside completing the challenge, we also raised money for the Mark Evison Foundation.
Overall, we feel that the project worked out really well. Although there were definitely difficult moments, particularly when dealing with the weather with a tent that couldn’t accommodate such harsh conditions leaving us wet some nights these challenges became an important part of the experience. Things did not always go exactly as planned, but we adapted and worked together to overcome problems as they came.
Completing the challenge showed us how important preparation and teamwork are, but also that you cannot prepare for absolutely everything. Sometimes the best thing you can do is stay calm, support the people around you and keep moving forward.
Before the trip, we were excited about spending several days wild camping and taking on such a demanding challenge. There were moments when we were exhausted and wondered how much further we had to go, but reaching the end of each day gave us a real sense of accomplishment.
We had gone from an idea and a plan to standing in the Lake District, carrying everything we needed and relying on each other to complete the challenge. By the end, we felt proud of what we had achieved together.
This project gave us much more than just a few days of hiking. we developed resilience, independence and confidence, especially when things became difficult. we also learned a lot about teamwork. When you are spending several days together and facing challenges as a group, communication and supporting one another become incredibly important.
There were tired legs, heavy backpacks and moments when all we wanted was to reach camp, but those are now some of the moments that made the experience memorable. Most importantly, we completed the challenge together, strengthened our friendships and raised money in support of the Mark Evison Foundation.
