Their story, in their words…
Felix and Koby’s Mark Evison Foundation Challenge was a five-night hiking and camping expedition around the Isle of Skye in Scotland. Our aim was to follow the coastline around the Trotternish Peninsula and wild camp in suitable locations along our route.
This worked well for the first night; however, the weather conditions worsened from that point onwards, and we both developed blisters early in the expedition. This forced us to adapt our plans, making use of the island’s public transport when it became clear that we would not reach our planned checkpoint before the end of the day.
Despite the many challenges we faced, we both had a great time thanks to the island’s outstanding natural beauty, which surrounded us throughout the journey. By the end of the expedition, we both felt significantly more confident in our navigation and map-reading skills, as we were frequently required to find alternative routes when the weather interfered with our original plans. We also noticed the friendliness of the people we met along the way, something that stood out because of the island’s rural setting, and agreed that we would like to bring more of that kindness into our own lives back home in the city.
Overall, the expedition pushed us well outside our comfort zones, taught us the importance of adapting to changing conditions, and gave us memories and experiences that we will both take forward into future adventures.
