Wine and Champagne Tasting at the Cavalry and Guards Club
Wednesday 12 March 2025 at 7 pm
Our popular seated wine and champagne tasting was hosted by Pol Roger again this year, with six wines and two champagnes introduced by James Simpson, an excellent Master of Wine, at the elegant Cavalry and Guards Club.  As ever, it was a brilliant event, and was followed by a short Auction of Promises.

Carol Concert Christ’s Chapel, SE21 7AD
Friday 22 November at 7pm
Susanna Reid and Dr Joe Spence, former Master of Dulwich College, compered the evening, and Helen Hayes MP, Kate Royal, Imogen Stubbs, Mick Brown and Johnny Guy Lewis read/sang for us. We held a champagne reception afterwards in the Linley Room, Dulwich Picture Gallery, which was a wonderful occasion.

Sunday 16 June
Visitors enjoyed tea, home-made cakes and a plant sale, in three stunning summer gardens, exploring wildflower meadows, herbaceous borders, rose gardens at their best, unusual plantings, a swimming pond and a pond for wildlife.

We were delighted that Pol Roger hosted our seated wine tasting with six wines and two champagnes (after all, Churchill’s 150th). They were introduced by James Simpson, an excellent Master of Wine. It was as ever a brilliant event, and included a short Auction of Promises, led by Sholto Moger, honorary trustee.

Friday 24th November 7 pm
Helen Hayes MP and celebrities Angus Imrie, Eve Matheson, Susanna Reid, Mick Brown, and Helen Meyerhoff  joined us at our very popular Carol Service, with the Dulwich College Choir.  There was a champagne reception afterwards in the Linley Room, Dulwich Picture Gallery, enjoyed by all.

An excellent seated wine tasting was held at the Club, with a glass Pol Roger Champagne on arrival. The Master of Wine Justin Howard-Sneyd provided his excellent wines from Domaine of the Bee, and there was an excellent Auction of Promises. It was a huge success.

Our annual Carol Service was held with celebrity readers and singers Celia Imrie, Lesley Sharp, Iain Glen, Kate Royal, Julian Ovenden and friends, with a champagne reception afterwards in the Linley Room at Dulwich Picture Gallery.

Past award winners and friends of the Foundation gathered to enjoy cake, drinks and live music from a local jazz ensemble, in an award-winning garden in its top summer bloom.

Our Carol Concert was held at Christ’s Chapel SE21 7AD. It was wonderful, with boys from the Dulwich College Chapel Choir and Jules Ovenden singing, and readings by Oliver Cotton, Lucy Robinson, Robert Glenister, and Helen Hayes MP. We held a champagne reception after, with the raffle of a Christmas hamper.

Many of our former award winners joined us for two focus group sessions in May and June to give us feedback on the awards process. The second session, in June, was followed by a barbecue also attended by some of the Foundation’s supporters.

Saracens played rugby with team Stade Francais at the HAC grounds, with the Foundation as the named charity. Volunteers, many of them Mark’s old Army friends, rattled buckets and worked hard to raised funds for the MEF. An auction of promises was held at two dinners in the evening, which raised substantial funds for the Foundation. Thank you to Saracens for this.

The OC Music Society held its annual concert at Charterhouse in aid of the Foundation. Gerard le Feuvre came to play Tchaikovsky’s Variations on a Rococo Theme for Cello and Orchestra, Op 33, and a very touching work of his own, in memory of Mark: as well there was a lovely programme of Beethoven, Tchaikovsky and Dvorak, well attended by an enthusiastic audience.
