Their story, in their words…
The five of us ran an engaging and fun football tournament during school hours where the 4 teams from each year battled it out for the elmgreen cup. To enter we charged each and every one of the players £1 to enter which allowed us to fundraise to Mark Evison it was a really strategic and good way to funraise and was perfect.
There were two tournaments one year 7 and one year 8 running at the same time with 4 teams. It worked out really really well and we’d love to do it again. We’re sure the ones who participated and helped loved it.
During the games there were a few situations where the kids were complaining and not happy with the teams but we managed to sort it out and we got through it and carried on with the tournament. For how it worked out the whole tournament started off with 2 of us taking year 7 and the other two taking the year 8s and splitting them into teams evenly, then we kicked off with each team playing each other then after that we handed out everyone an ice lolly, and we then continued to the knockout stages and ended off with a final with each year groups to get the winner.
We then went on to give out the awards for best behaved, best played and the winners with gift vouchers, and trophies. Throughout the whole tournament we felt like it went really well considering how many children we had to handle with 5 members. It was incredibly organised and was so enjoyable for the kids and was made sure to give them opportunities to play and enjoy themselves throughout the whole tournament.
Bert was the referee for most of the games for year 8 including the final and found it really enjoyable. As a referee, Aston also made sure the games were played fairly and kept the matches running while keeping everyone safe.
We all felt proud to be part of the tournament because everyone was helping it run smoothly and making sure everyone had a good experience. From this experience, we improved our confidence, communication, and responsibility. It also helped us develop our decision making skills through refereeing and showed us how important teamwork is when organising an event. In the end, we felt really relieved that it was finished. Additionally we now can learn from my mistakes and give me ourselves a even better if and what we can do better for next time or in the future. Overall we’re glad we were given the opportunity and funding to do it and very thankful to Mark Evison.
