awards

Every year we offer one or more applicants between the ages of 16 and 30 a financial contribution of up to £5000 (‘general award’) that will enable them to complete a challenge that will help them develop.

The Foundation will also fund an award at selected schools or clubs ('school awards’), for an individual who successfully applies for funding through the school for a specific challenge which shows evidence of the qualities supported by the Foundation.

Successful Foundation applicants will show initiative, a willingness to take calculated risks and so increase confidence, and evidence of a can-do attitude. They may also show evidence of caring for others along the way, and an understanding of the importance of mutual support and team work: their activities may set an example to others.

General Awards

The stipulations for the General Award are that the individual(s) must:

·            be between 16 and 30 years old, and live in southern England

·            have a definite goal or ambition of a mental, physical, and personal nature

·            reflect a positive attitude, a strong ambition and an evident motivation to achieve their goal

·            show evidence of substantial preparation for the goal, with preliminary project planning and research

·            show evidence of the goal being a personal challenge, involving taking calculated risks at the individual’s level of experience

·            show evidence of unusual creativity and flair in achieving the goal, which may be novel

·            be prepared to present the experience they have had, at informal or formal events later

The activities themselves are most likely to benefit the individual rather than the greater community or other non-profit organisations. Applications for further professional development will not be considered. Evidence of matched funding would be welcomed.

The general awards will be judged by a panel of trustees, all of whom knew Mark personally: the panel will assess the quality of applications within the context of the aims of the Foundation. School awards will be judged by Foundation trustees and staff within each school.
