Their story, in their words…
“To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the First World War and the heroism of countless patriots we undertook a 7-day cross-country bike ride from London, through France and Belgium and back, visiting cemeteries and battlegrounds. In particular we visited memorials and cemeteries of distinguished Old Alleynians who have won the prestigious Victoria Cross (Old Alleynians being ex-students from our school Dulwich College), as well as other servicemen who lost their lives defending our freedom.
We set off from the College Memorial at 07:00 on Wednesday the 25th and arrived home a week later thoroughly tired out but a great deal more worldly, and not to mention exhausted! Over the course of the week we had some incredible experiences, humbling moments, and met so many interesting and generous characters.
Whilst the country views were quaint and the physical effort fulfilling, it was the people we met on our journey who inspired us the most. The incredibly genuine and sincere people who opened their homes and hearts to us changed the way we thought about the world. There are some remarkable adventures to be had out there, but there are equally remarkable people.”
